“Die With a Smile” marked a powerful return for Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, both of whom had taken a two to three-year hiatus from releasing new music. The song was surprise-announced just a day before its official release on August 15, and dropped at midnight EST along with an accompanying music video.
In her announcement post, Gaga revealed that the track was meant as a gift to fans—a holdover until the arrival of her much-anticipated seventh studio album, which she had been teasing throughout 2024. Eventually, “Die With a Smile” was featured as the final track on the album, titled MAYHEM, released in 2025.
The duet quickly gained momentum on social media and went on to win “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” at the 2025 GRAMMY Awards. With an impressive 121 consecutive days at #1 on Spotify’s daily global chart, the soft rock ballad set a new record as the longest-running top hit in the platform’s history. It also climbed to the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Radio Songs chart, further cementing its success.
